High School Independent Study
(Offered 2026-2027)
Anatomy and Physiology (.25 credit), Health (.25 credit) Environmental Science (.25 credit), Engineering (.25 credit), and Independent Study.

Students will spend a quarter of the term learning about each of the following areas of science: Anatomy and Physiology, Health, Environmental Science, and Engineering. Students will be responsible for watching videos each week to help learn certain concepts in these areas. Half of the teaching time will be spent lecturing on these subjects, performing lab experiments to apply knowledge, problem solving, and discussing current issues and job opportunities.
The remaining teaching time will be set up as a collaborative environment, where students will discuss personal study projects of interest. Each quarter students will study a personal project, preparing for a final presentation after 7 weeks. During the collaborative time, everyone will engage in listening to each others' project ideas, asking questions to deepen understanding, offering suggestions to expand depth of knowledge, and offering support as a peer. Students will practice constructive comments, asking quality questions, critical thinking, and teamwork. Students will also learn to lead and facilitate team meetings. They will create an agenda, leading the team in an environment that promotes questioning, support, constructive criticism, and positive feedback. These meetings will further their personal projects through peer engagement. Personal mentoring will also occur to hold students accountable, help give further resources of study, and help connections be made to further project understanding.
